Cuisinart Hand Blender

A Review of Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender Series

After making its name in countertop blender market, it's only natural that this company incorporates Cuisinart hand blender into its portfolio of blender products.

As with its other products, when it comes to immersion blender market, Cuisinart also aims to produce economical hand blenders which work.

Good intent, huh ?

But does it succeed ? Or does it fail ?

To find out what Cuisinart hand blenders are like, read reviews of two of their popular hand blenders:

  • Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blenders (CSB-77 and CSB-76)
  • Cuisinart Smart Stick Plus (CSB-78), a cordless hand blender.

Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender Reviews: CSB-77 and CSB-76.

If you've been looking for "the" perfect hand blender which is powerful, does a wide range of blending job, and does not break the bank, then Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender Series (CSB-76 and CSB-77) could be the one for you.

Customers reported that they have made smoothies out of hard frozen fruit successfully with these blenders - all in reasonable time frame and without leaving lumps. Making smooth smoothies out of frozen fruit is the hallmark of any good blender. So this is a not a small feat for a hand blender.

Pureeing soup directly from the pot is another thing that these two Cuisinart hand blenders are very good at doing.

If these two hand blenders are very good in doing harder blending job, you can only imagine what easier blending jobs like mixing drink, frothing coffee, pureeing soft canned fruit, and so forth, would be like with these Cuisinart immersion blenders.

How do these Cuisinart immersion blenders do this ?

Strong power and good engineering are the answers I guess. Having a 200 watt power in a hand blender shows that Cuisinart is serious about making an accomplished blender. Sharp and good blade design with an anti-splattering feature make CBS-77 and CBS-77 superior immersion blenders. The fact that the wand or stick (the part which can be immersed into the pot or container) is long and made out of stainless steel enable these hand blender to blend contents effectively even from deep jars or pots.

Another good feature of Cuisinart CBS-76 and 77 are the detachable blade feature. This makes cleaning super duper easy. Just detach the blade from the motor part, and put that into the dishwasher.

But, which one to get ? Cuisinart Smart Stick CBS-76 or CBS-77 ?

Both of these two blenders are largely similar. The main difference between the two is this: the CSB-77 has a brushed chrome finish and looks ... well ... fancy and shiny (see the picture on the left handside), while the CSB-76 looks like your run of the mill plastic version of the CSB-77.

I would like to add though, that although CSB-77 looks metallic, it's not actually made of metal. Its handle is plastic through and through, but it does have a nice chrome finish which makes it look expensive. And indeed CSB-77 is a more expensive than CSB-76.

But that has got nothing to do with the fancy chrome finish.

It's because Cuisinart CSB-77 includes a whisking and chopper attachment in the kit, whereas with CSB-76 you don't get all the nifty stuff.

But is everything really rosy with these two Cuisinart hand blenders ?

I'm afraid not. Here are some of the customer's complaints:

  • They only have one speed button designed for a continuous whirring to blend your smoothie, soup or whatever you like.

  • That one speed button does not have a pulse feature.

  • The stick can be too long for a short person. Cuisinart intentionally designs the wand (the part which houses the detachable blade) of these hand blenders to be long so that they are able to penetrate and blend the content of deep jars or pots. But then I can imagine how it could pose a problem to shorter people. However, the Cuisinart hand blender does have a comfortable grip. So that may lessen the inconvenience associated with the long stick.

  • There are incidents of inferior products circulating, resulting in break down within months of usage. Although Cuisinart Smart Stick hand blenders come with 3 year warranty, unfortunately, when your Cuisinart stick blender breaks down, you have to bear the shipping cost to send it back , and, to rub more salt to the wound, bear another shipping of replacement item to the tune of $10.

Cuisinart Smart Stick Plus Cordless Hand Blender (CSB-78)

For people who like to use a hand blender but would like more freedom to move about, Cuisinart has produced a cordless hand blender which is similar to its sibling, the electric Smart Stick hand blender (scroll above to see the review of the Cuisinart electric hand blender).

This Cuisinart Smart Stick Plus Cordless Hand Blender has the same features as its electric siblings, with an astounding 20 minutes of run time, no cord to get in the way or get messy, and it charges up in no time, too.

As far as the accessories goes, it's more like CBS-77 , which comes equipped with a plastic beaker, a whisk and a chopper attachment. There is also a wall mount storage stand, and the handle itself plugs right into a wall socket to save some space.

Appearance wise, it also looks like Cuisinart Smart Stick CBS-77, which the fancy chrome finish and all.

The question is, is it really as powerful as its electric siblings ?

Some customers have noted that it's a bit less powerful than electric hand blender, so expect your blending job getting longer.

Another complaints are as follows:

  • This Cuisinart stick blender is heavier because of the rechargeable battery pack in the blender.
  • Cuisinart Smart Stick Cordless hand blender is in general bigger than its electric siblings. This can be awkward for people with small hands.
  • As the time goes, the rechargeable battery capability to store power deteriorates. So it means, if at the beginning it used to have a 20 minutes run time, you can expect it to have less and less run time as the time goes by. This is just the nature of any rechargeable battery, I guess.

Where to Buy Cuisinart Hand Blender - The Smart Stick Plus Cordless Series (CBS-78)
